Notice Concerning the Impact of the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake
We offer our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by the earthquake, which struck the Tohoku region of Japan on March 11, 2011. Please find below a notice regarding the impact of the disaster on the Kirin Group.
1. Safety of personnel
We are currently in the process of confirming that all our staff are safe and well. As we have not yet been able to confirm the safety of some staff members, we are working hard to complete this process.
2. Extent of damage to production facilities and other structures
-
(1) Kirin Brewery Company, Limited
The main damage occurred at the Sendai Plant, where all facilities sustained damage including the collapse of four beer storage tanks, while the tsunami has affected product stocks. At present, operations at the Sendai Plant are suspended, with no date for resumption of operations envisaged as yet. The Toride Plant also suffered damage to some facilities, including damage to sections of the beer storage tanks and the plant building, and we envisage that some time will be needed before operations can resume. We are currently undertaking a detailed assessment of the damage.
-
(2) Mercian Corporation
Although the automated warehouse at the Fujisawa Logistics Center has been slightly damaged, it has not impacted heavily on Mercian.
-
(3) Kirin Beverage Company, Limited
Our production plants and sales bases have not sustained any major damage. The production plants are operating, with checks being performed as necessary to confirm the condition of infrastructures.
-
(4) Other domestic group companies
With certain exceptions, confirmation of the status of domestic group companies has been completed. A number of companies have sustained minor damage, but the effect on the operations of the Kirin Group as a whole has been negligible.
3. Impact on business performance
We are currently assessing the damage caused by the earthquake in monetary terms and will provide prompt information if any effects on the business performance of the Kirin Group is envisaged.
