Deepening the Kirin Group’s commitment to CSV

―To realize sustainable growth by prioritizing “health and well-being”, “community engagement”, and “the environment” ―

To further promote CSV (Creating Shared Value; the creation of value that can be shared with society) throughout the Kirin Group, Kirin Holdings Company, Limited (President and CEO: Yoshinori Isozaki) has established the Group’s medium- to long-term CSV vision and goals as “Our CSV Commitment.” First and foremost, as “a responsible alcohol producer”, Kirin will work towards solving alcohol-related problems. To that end Kirin will place top priority on addressing three key social issues, namely, “health and well-being”, “community engagement”, and “the environment”, throughout the Group’s businesses.

The world around us has been going through radical changes, and a wide range of issues have emerged that are getting increasingly serious. It is becoming a global consensus that not only governments and NGOs but also commercial companies should play an active role in addressing social issues. The latest international frameworks for achieving sustainable global growth, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth by the United Nations※1 and the Paris Agreement adopted at COP21※2, stress the need for commercial companies to make a more proactive contribution.

  • ※1SDGs: Pertain to issues that the world should address over the next 15 years between 2016 and 2030 for sustainable global development that are stipulated in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted at the United Nation summit in September 2015.
  • ※2COP21: The 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (held in November 2015).

In 2012, the Kirin Group announced to make CSV the foundation of its business management. Through innovation by leveraging the Group’s strengths, Kirin aims to work towards solving social issues, thereby contributing to the creation of a bright future for its customers. It is also positioning “Kirin Group’s unique CSV” as a key strategy to realize its Long-Term Management Vision “New Kirin Group Vision 2021 (New KV2021)”.

The Kirin Group’s “Our CSV Story” released this time spells out why CSV is so crucial to the Group and describes the kind of society the Group hopes to build. As part of this, the Group has selected, from the wide variety of social issues, three key issues that have a particularly close connection to its businesses, “health and well-being”, “community engagement”, and “the environment”, on top of Kirin’s underlying commitment to be “a responsible alcohol producer” as its medium- to long-term priorities to achieve sustainable growth for the Group and society. From this perspective, Kirin has drawn up specific commitments that each business within the Group will undertake to fulfil, as well as providing specific approaches to reach desired outcomes for meeting these commitments. For its part, Kirin will solicit insights from both within and outside the Group to contribute to this process, always striving to create value for society through its businesses.

The Kirin Group is focusing its efforts on three key social issues:
“health and well-being,” ”community engagement,” and “the environment.”
Addressing these issues with a deep commitment, we envision a bright future and aim to realize our goals as we work together with our customers.
