Kyowa Hakko Bio’s 2’-Fucosyllactose Receives Approval by FSSAI in India

KYOWA HAKKO BIO CO., LTD. (Kyowa Hakko Bio), a subsidiary of Kirin Holdings Company, Limited, is pleased to announce that its 2’-Fucosyllactose (2’-FL), a Human Milk Oligosaccharide (HMO), has granted approval on September 2nd, 2024 as Food Ingredients by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) 1). This marks a significant milestone as it is the first HMO from KYOWA HAKKO BIO to receive recognition in the Indian market.

India, with its high population and projected growth over the next few decades, presents a promising opportunity for the incorporation of our HMOs. According to the United Nations, India has had the highest population in the world since 2023 and is expected to continue growing for the next 40 years2). Moreover, India's position as the world's fifth-largest economy by nominal GDP and the increasing awareness of nutrition and fitness among the population indicate a substantial and sustained demand for safe nutrition for people of all ages in India3)4).

The FSSAI's recognition of the safety and quality of our HMO "2'-FL" underscores our commitment to providing innovative and beneficial ingredients for the Indian market. This approval further strengthens KYOWA HAKKO BIO's position as a trusted supplier of HMOs globally.

KYOWA HAKKO BIO has been at the forefront of HMO production, with successful commercial production of 2'-FL in our state-of-the-art facility in Thailand since November 2022. As the first HMO approved by the FSSAI, we are excited to introduce our HMO "2'-FL" to the Indian market and contribute to the health and well-being of people in India.
